[ENSLAVEMENT]. Notice of capture for a "runaway slave" named Milton. Rushville, [IL], 24 July 1835.


Manuscript notice for a "runaway slave" named Milton, who is in custody of the Schuyler County Sheriff. Rushville, [IL], 24 July 1835. One page, 7 3/4 x 6 in.

"Notice / Is hereby given that a black man named Milton has this day been committed to my custody as a runaway slave. The said Milton is about twenty years of age. Five feet six inches high and well proportioned. He says that his master lives in Marion County Missouri near Palmyra, his name William McDaniel. Rushville 24 July 1835. [Indecipherable] Shff. of Schuyler County [IL]."

Creased along folds, with separations - some significant and repaired with tape on verso - some areas of discoloration due to original method of adhesion along edges/corners. Inked arithmetic problems on verso and in recto margin.
